California’s Historic Marriage Case

[copied and pasted from: Equality California]

"A Victory for Marriage
Same-gender Couples Win Freedom to Marry

* Read the Supreme Court's decision.
* Read the press release
* Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger released the following statement today regarding the state Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage:

“I respect the Court’s decision and as Governor, I will uphold its ruling. Also, as I have said in the past, I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling.”

Celebration of Love and Family

Today, the California Supreme Court will rule on the California marriage case, calling on the state to end its ban on marriage for same-gender couples. Join plaintiffs, community leaders and LGBT families for a community gathering in response to this historic decision which will forever alter the course of our fight for equality.

Events are planned in cities across the state."

Next week (April 14 - 17) is LGBT Diversity Week. Each day, there will be an event honoring the diversity within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community.

On Thursday, April 14, we will be recognizing Day of Silence, a nationally honored occasion in which campuses all over the country rally to end the harassing, bullying, and name-calling experienced by LGBT individuals. Afterwards, from 1:30 - 2:30 I will be facilitating "Louder than Words: A Workshop on Performances of Gender and Privilege" in the USU Room 306. I would love for each one of you to come participate.
