FORCE

We are F.O.R.C.E. - Feminist Organization Reclaiming Consciousness and Equality. Our purpose is to bring dialogue to stimulate an understanding of feminisms by raising consciousness of women's issues, which include but are not limited to personal experience, agency, and the understanding of women's differences and similarities. In order to reach these goals we plan to educate and inform the campus community through activities and workshops. Lastly, F.O.R.C.E. will support the WRC, other campus organizations, and various departments that believe in the enrichment of women's lives.

Glossary

All too often, people are intimidated by feminism, unsure of how to approach a subject loaded with unfamiliar jargon (that is, technical words). Once you've grafted these words into your vocabulary, you'll understand where we're coming from, and why we choose to call ourselves feminists.

chauvinism	an attitude of superiority toward members of the opposite sex; also : behavior expressive of such an attitude
cisgender	effectively, non-transgender; observed to be female and identifies as female
feminism	1 : the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes 2 : organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests
gender	the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex
gender role	the preconceived and socialized roles that are assigned to a person based solely on their gender
heterosexism	the assumption that heterosexuality is the only normal orientation
intersex	intermediate in sexual characters between a typical male and a typical female
misogyny	a hatred of women
patriarchy	control by men of a disproportionately large share of power
queer	any sort of sexual orientation that differs from the “norm” of hetereosexuality.
sex	either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and that are distinguished respectively as female or male
sexism	1 : prejudice or discrimination based on sex; especially : discrimination against women 2 : behavior, conditions or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex
transgender	a person who has decided to deviate to another gender from the one that they were assigned at birth
